In this 5-day workshop students will work from the live model, over an extended pose. They will discover a clear and straightforward way to approach painting the portrait, with an emphasis on structure, form, and light. A portrait needs structure, gesture, and form to feel alive, we will go through the important steps and work towards achieving likeness in your portrait. You will leave this workshop with a more competent knowledge in Portrait painting as well as a complete and painted portrait. We will achieve this through demonstrations and individual critiques, all information covered in this course will be thoroughly explained, and each artist will work towards meeting their individual goals. Depending on if you are a beginner in oil painting or an advanced painter, our instructor will adjust to your individual level.

Everything you need to participate in the workshop will be provided by the school. However, if you prefer to bring your own material you are most welcome to do so, it might be helpful as you are accustomed to them. Specifically brushes might be advisable to bring from your own materials.

The workshop will take place in the school's model room with beautfully high ceilings. You will spend 5 days in charming Simrishamn, a small fishing town in the south of Sweden. Simrishamn is situated in the Österlen region, surrounded by exceptional natural beauty that presents both coastline and forest. In the summer Simrishamn is busy and offers a wide selection of restaurants and cafés, all within a short stroll from the school. With the sea only 200 meters away from us, it is not far to go for landscape sketching or a refreshing swim after a day of oil painting!
