Makena and Mitzi

I love both the creation and sharing of art, so it makes sense to me that my artistic goal is to communicate a message--emotional, reminiscent, inspiring, or amusing--with each piece I paint.  I suppose that comes after years of pursuing writing as a career and teaching writing. Though watercolor can be a frustrating medium to work with, I love the transparency, the colors, the emotion, and the "life" I can achieve with it.  I must admit that being a problem-solver, I enjoy the challenges!

I have also discerned that my special love is painting animals.  There's something about the open expression in their eyes that urges me to share their lives by catching a special moment.  I've also learned that I needn't travel to distant places--although that would be terrific--to find so many diverse animals with their stories.
