Spring Clean

To me the wattle tree defines the start of spring with the bright yellow flowers like a thousand tiny suns. Bringing in the new season feels fresh, clean, and brings new life. All the birds molt their feathers and you can see them hanging out in the trees preening the old and making way for the new. I always relate Galahs with spring the most as their energy and playful pink colouring really reflect the spring season.

Also known as the Rose-breasted Cockatoo or Pink and Grey, the Galah is abundant and widespread across most of Australia. With their distinct and unmistakable pink and grey plumage, it is a familiar sight. They have a short crest on the head which when lowered, looks like a cap. The male and female are distinguished by eye colour with the male having dark eyes, and the female pinkish red. Although a protected species in Australia, their populations are increasing. Often considered a pest by farmers, they have benefited greatly since European Colonisation simply with the change to the landscape bringing more seeds which is their primary food source.
