The Best of Me

When painting any portrait, I look for what is the heart of the subject. What is it that defines that person? There are so many tiny intricate parts that make up a whole, but in a portrait, we can mainly only focus on one or two. So when I looked at creating a self-portrait, I had to think what was most important to me, and it was quite simple - my children. They are at a stage where they are embarking on their own lives where the role of parent and child is changing. They are embarking on new careers - m son, Jake in the film industry, my daughter, Danni, in fashion and costume design. It’s a wonderful, exciting time for them and I couldn’t be prouder. And they really are the best of me.
