Dancing in the Light

The background of this painting, Pentridge, is an old jail in Melbourne, Australia. It’s now abandoned, but in its time was a place of darkness, housing criminals of some horrendous crimes. I wanted to create a juxtaposition to that with something beautiful – the dancer. To me, this painting represents a person’s struggle to find light in the darkness. In a society where depression and mental illness is rising, seeing that light through the darkness is becoming more and more important.
