Jhe

I started working with the ballet in 1995, and in 2006, this painting came about via collaboration with dancers from the Charlotte Ballet (née North Carolina Dance Theater), in the tradition of Serge Diaghilev and the Ballet Russes. I began work with during my residency with the McColl Center for Art. Jhe is a stunning dancer, and this pose captures his strength and flexibility. The use of twisting figures in conjunction with geometric shapes/forms has me pondering the next steps of capturing more the “body in motion”.
