From plaster ecorches to beautiful north-lit studios, Grand Central Atelier has provided me with all of resources I need to earnestly pursue my passion. The exchange of ideas and critiques from like-minded peers is invaluable to my development as a professional artist. Drawing the figure from life every day has taught me to sensitively interpret the human form as both a structural machine and sublime muse, a duality fully understood by the Old Masters. I am deeply interested in figurative painting and portraiture, and under the guidance of my instructors I am striving to convey thought behind the eyes of a portrait, and breathe life into the gesture of a figure.

My goal is to develop a skill set that will foster a sustainable career in painting and teaching. I wish to build a lifestyle around my passion, and support a family while doing so. Art making to me is a form of communication, and beauty a catalyst for empathy. I hope that the sincerity in my craft and subject matter inspires a thirst for beauty in my audience.

I have spent years working and saving to afford this training, all the while heedlessly studying the Old Masters and pursuing a command of my craft. It has been a struggle to support my education thus far, and this scholarship will greatly alleviate my financial burden and allow me to focus on my work. This scholarship will allow me to continue my studies and help me become fluent in the language of classical drawing and painting. With this skill set I will dedicate my life to the pursuit of mastery and make a worthwhile and lasting contribution to art history and art education.
