This essential practice presents the ultimate challenge to the artist and once mastered, opens up a world of possibilities. Whether you aim to become the next great figurative artist or just find joy in the process of drawing, this course will set you on your path and will give you the tools you need to create a successful body of work!

Course Schedule (Subjects may change depends on students’ progress)
Week1: Introduction to French Academy Drawing. You will copy one of "Bargue’s" plates in graphite pencils. We will start with a very simple plate such as a foot, leg, hand or back. A step-by-step demo will be provided.

Week 2-3: You will copy another plate in charcoals. This will be your choice, but I recommend trying something a little more complicated than the first one.

Week 4: After creating two plates, you will move on to the Cast Drawing. (You can create more plates if you want to.) You will start with a very simple cast such as a hand or eye. A step-by-step demo will be provided.

After working with several casts over the course of a few months, you can start Cast Painting or you can transfer to the Life Drawing Class and work with live models. Occasional brief lectures, handouts, assignments and demonstrations will be given.
