ARC Call For Entries: Deadline August 14th

The Art Renewal Center is now accepting entries to the 15th International ARC Salon Competition, offering over $130,000 in cash awards, $25,000 for best in show, as well as publication, exhibition, and purchase opportunities. The ARC Salon is the largest competition in the world for representational artists painting, sculpting and drawing. The competition is open to all representational artists worldwide.

New Stephen Gjertson Interview on Skill-Based Art

Skill-Based Art: A Learning Resource for Art Students & Artist-Teachers has republished yet another video interview with Stephen Gjertson, who is a longstanding artist of the Classical Realist tradition that was trained by Richard Lack in the 1970s. In the interview, Mr. Gjertson elaborates on the stylistic conventions and philosophy of Classical Realism and his own training in it. Conversation regarding the creation of several key works which he has painted throughout his life is included which sheds light on his sources of inspiration, aesthetic considerations, and his painting process.

Caravaggio-Bernini: Baroque in Rome

Caravaggio-Bernini: Baroque in Rome is an exhibition of more than 70 masterpieces by Caravaggio, Bernini and their contemporaries. The paintings and sculptures are on loan to the Rijksmuseum from museums and private collections around the world.
The exhibition is on view 14 February – 13 September 2020 at the Rijksmuseum Museumstraat 1, 1071 Amsterdam, Netherlands.

FAA Student Exhibition 2020

Red Chalk Global Draw Along Party with Charles Miano

Join ARC Associate Living Master Charles Miano and Gage Academy of Art on Thursday, July 30, 2020 on a journey of expression as he teaches the secret fundamentals of Red Chalk Drawing. Follow along in the comfort of your own home or studio while Charles explains the nuances of red chalk drawing as it applies to direct observation of the live model. Blocking-in shapes, tone masses, edges as well as morphology will be explained and demonstrated throughout the workshop. In addition, Charles will discuss the historical importance of red chalk and how masters such as Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael all utilized its tremendous potential.

14th ARC Salon in Fine Art Today

Stamford Museum & Nature Center is holding The Society of Animal Artist's 59th Annual Exhibition “Art and the Animal”. The collection features over 50 paintings, drawings and sculptures of animals from around the globe, including exotic birds, majestic cats, mammals, and endangered species.

Stephen Gjertson Interview

Skill-Based Art: A Learning Resource for Art Students & Artist-Teachers has republished a video interview with Classical Realist painter and ARC Living Master, Stephen Gjertson, which was recorded during 1996. Mr. Gjertson was part of the first cohort of students who were trained by Richard Lack in Minnesota during the early 1970s, who went on to become an influential teacher of the Classical Realist tradition. Mr. Gjertson has actively propagated the teachings of Mr. Lack throughout his life as well as writing two of Mr. Lack's biographies and continuing to paint images which celebrate his faith, family, and strong appreciation for artists of the past.

Nicolaes Maes: Dutch Master of the Golden Age

Titian: Love, Desire, Death

In 1551, Prince Philip of Spain, the future King Philip II, commissioned Titian, the most famous painter in Europe at the time, to produce a group of paintings showing Classical myths primarily taken from the Roman poet Ovid’s ‘Metamorphoses’. This exhibition reunites all six paintings in the series, from Boston, Madrid, and London, for the first time in over four centuries.

On August 6, 2020 Keirce will be doing an interactive painting demonstration where she will show some of her tricks for painting these palm sized works of art under a magnifying glass.
