ARC Salon in PoetsArtists Magazine
Published on October 25, 2018
PoetArtists Magazine has recently published an article by David Molesky on their website about the 13th ARC Salon.
"Before it opened to the public, I was invited to view the 13th Art Renewal Center (ARC) Salon competition exhibited at the historic Salmagundi Club on a mansion-lined block of 5th Avenue. Pushing through the double doors, I passed the stairs that lead up to the club library and down to the dining room salon and pool hall, and walked straight back into the newly retrofitted gallery space. I was greeted by Kara Lysandra Ross, Co-Chair and Chief Operating Officer of the ARC. In between giving directions to her crew as they hurried to finish the install before the opening, Kara found time to chat with me about the exhibition, its history, and the process."

JW Godward 1861-1922: The Eclipse of Classicism Hardcover
Published on October 24, 2018
John William Godward was among the brightest stars of the late Graeco-Roman painters during classicism's twilight years. Some believe he equaled Alma-Tadema in his depiction of marble and flowers and Frederic Leighton in his depiction of drapery. However, his own reclusive nature, society's loss of interest in classical subject painting, aggressive modernist art and the efforts of his disapproving family conspired to plunge him into obscurity.
Swanson's original edition of John William Godward introduced the life of a very private man who pushed the classical ideal further into the twentieth century than most would think possible. This revised edition contains the author's latest research - significant expansions to the text, as well as approximately 100 new pictures, many of which have only recently been attributed to Godward.

Celebrating Tintoretto
Published on October 17, 2018
Jacopo Tintoretto was one of the preeminent Venetian painters of the sixteenth century, renowned for his monumental narrative scenes and his insightful portraits of patricians and citizens. In celebration of the five hundredth anniversary of the artist's birth, this exhibition explores an innovative and little-studied aspect of Tintoretto's portraiture: small-scale, informal portrait heads characterized by immediacy, intense observation, and startling modernity. These works capture both the appearance and the spirit of the sitter, and are painted with the artist's famous prestezza, or quickness.
The exhibition runs from 10/18/18- 1/27/19 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art 1000 5th Ave, NY New York, 10028.
