The Representational Art Conference 2019 (TRAC2019), run by California Lutheran University Arts Initiative, is one of the largest international events focused on representational art in the 21st Century.
This year, the conference will explore the relationship between imagination and representation.
Artists and speakers include: Roger Dean, Cheech Marin, Corinna Wagner, Joseph Bravo, Regina Jacobson, Michael Pearce, Michael Zakian, F. Scott Hess, Virgil Elliott.

New ARC Associate Living Master Charles Kapsner

ARC is pleased to announce Charles Kapsner as a new ARC Associate Living Master™.
“'Remember nature is your teacher, I am your guide',was a prevailing theme in the studio of Nerina Simi (1890 – 1987) in Florence, Italy, where Charles Kapsner’s greatest learning as a painter occurred. His artistic roots are planted in the 15th Century, yet he remains a contemporary painter whose compositions fuse old and new. He works to ensure that both art and artist are accessible, and that the images serve as educational tools."

157th Annual Exhibition of the Society of Women Artists

ARC Associate Living Master™ Arina Gordienko will have three of her works displayed in the 157th Annual Exhibition of the Society of Women Artists from September 25 -30, 2018.
The show opens at the Mall Galleries St. James's, London SW1Y 5AH, UK on Wednesday September 26, 2018 from 10am – 5pm.
Patron of the Society of Women Artists HRH Princess Michael of Kent will arrive at 11 am to open the exhibition and present the Awards.

13th ARC Salon Opens in New York City

The 13th International ARC Salon Exhibition opened in New York City this past Friday. Within the first four days of the exhibition, approximately 700 people came to view the show, and many of the exhibiting artists from around the world were in attendance. Approximately 50% of the works in the show are available for sale, and the other 50% are on loan from private and institutional collections. Now recognized as the largest competition dedicated to realism in the world, with over 3,750 entries from 69 countries, the exhibition associated to the competition brings together an eclectic grouping of works from different styles, themes, mediums, and world views. The ARC Salon Exhibition will be on view at the Salmagundi Club (47 Fifth Ave., New York, NY) from September 21—October 2, 2018. The exhibition will then travel to Sotheby’s Los Angeles, CA from December 4—13, 2018. The final stop for the live exhibition will be at the MEAM Museum in Barcelona, Spain from February 8—March 31, 2019 with the ARC Award Ceremony and grand opening on February 8th, 2019 starting at 7pm.
Southern Atelier Back to School Party

The Southern Atelier is holding a back to school party. The event is free and open to the public. Visitors can meet instructors, students, board members and even sign up for classes and workshops.

Independent Realists Exhibition at the Museum Møhlmann

Museum Møhlmann is celebrating its twentieth anniversary.
It is an important Dutch platform for realist art and without outside support, the museum has been able to build up various collections and to organize several exhibitions each year.
The annual Independent Realists Exhibition (Onafhankelijke Realisten Tentoonstelling, ORT) will display over 500 works by 127 artists.
ARC Associate Living Master™ Gezien van de Riet will be among the artists participating in the exhibition.
The exhibition runs from 9/23-12/23/18 at the Museum Møhlmann, 102 Westersingel, Appingedam 9901 GK, the Netherlands.

The Best of The Best Exhibition

ARC Salon in Outdoor Painter

Outdoor Painter recently published an article about the plein air works being exhibited in the 13th International ARC Salon Exhibition, selected from our recently added Plein Air Category.
Several of the winners and honorable mentions from this category are included in the 13th ARC Salon Exhibition, which will be on view at the Salmagundi Club from September 21 - October 2, 2018. The Public Opening will be on Saturday, September 22nd from 11am – 3pm.
Entries for the 14th ARC Salon will be received from December 1, 2018 – March 15, 2019.

Delacroix Exhibition

French painter Eugène Delacroix was one of the greatest creative figures of the nineteenth century. Delacroix produced an extraordinarily vibrant body of work, setting into motion a cascade of innovations that changed the course of art. This exhibition will be the first comprehensive retrospective devoted to this amazing artist ever held in North America.
The exhibition, a joint project with the Musée du Louvre, will illuminate Delacroix's restless imagination through more than 150 paintings, drawings, prints, and manuscripts-many never before seen in the United States. It will unfold chronologically, encompassing the rich variety of themes that preoccupied the artist during his more than four decades of activity, including literature, history, religion, animals, and nature.
The exhibition runs from 9/17/2018 - 1/6/2019 and is being held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 5th Ave, NY, New York, 10028.

Daniel Greene: A Retrospective

Organized by The Butler Institute of American Art, this retrospective showcases the realist art of ARC Living Master™ Daniel Greene. It will include a range of work from paintings created in the 1970s to recent pieces. Greene’s art demonstrates both skill and imagination, and carries on the great American tradition of narrative painting. This exhibition features 30 works that trace the evolution of his style over the course of his six-decade career.
The exhibition runs from September 9 - November 18, 2018 and is being held at the Mattatuck Museum located on 144 W Main St, Waterbury CT 06702.
An opening reception will be held on Sunday, September 16, 1:00-3:00 p.m., with a Q and A at 2:00 p.m.

2018 ARC Scholarship Winners Posted

The year the Art Renewal Center has awarded $29,700 in scholarship funds. As those familiar with ARC and its mission know, the organization is involved in numerous projects, all in support of a return to an appreciation of great and enduring art, to the visual expression of shared humanity, and to academic, skill-based, art education. At ARC we view our scholarship program as one of the most important. In order for future generations to produce great art, we must not lose the accumulated knowledge of the last several centuries. At our ARC Approved Atelier™ schools, we know these methods are still taught by some of the greatest artists alive today and the students who are the recipients of these scholarships will receive the training necessary to create great works of art and carry the knowledge to the next generation.

The International Guild of Realism 13th Annual Exhibition

The International Guild of Realism (IGOR), an ARC Allied Organization, is holding their 13th annual exhibition, which will feature a blend of contemporary and classical realism along with styles such as trompe l'oeil, magic realism, and photo realism. 96 paintings by 91 artists will be on display for this year's show.
The exhibition runs from October 5 to October 29, 2018 at the Sugarman-Peterson Gallery, 130 W Palace Ave, Santa Fe NM 87501.
The opening reception is on October 5th from 5:30 to 7:30pm.

ARC Scholarship Competition Posting

The results for the 2018 ARC Scholarship Competition will be posted on Tuesday, September 11, 2018.
The Scholarship Competition is one of the most important programs offered by ARC. Each year, the ARC Scholarship Fund distributes approximately $30,000 in direct scholarships to aid students at ARC Approved™ art academy and atelier schools.

Mario Robinson: Recent Watercolors

Mario Robinson is holding an exhibition of recent watercolor portraits and streetscapes.
The paintings in his current exhibit possess atmospheric qualities, seen through his manipulation of light, specifically regarding his portraits. The viewer is confronted with a blunt yet solemn sense of reality.

Congratulations to ARC Associate Living Master™ Vicki Sullivan for being a finalist in The Kennedy Prize Competition.
The Kennedy Prize is an annual Australian Award and the theme of this year's competition is Beauty.
The exhibition will be held at the Royal South Australian Society of Arts, Level 1, corner of North Terrace and Kintore Avenue, Adelaide, South Australia from Spetember 6-23, 2018.

Call for Entries from the Guide Artists

The Guide Artists, an ARC Allied Organization, is holding their first awards competition.
Their aim is to make this one of the most prestigious portrait painting competitions in the world, representing the very best in contemporary portrait painting across the globe. This is a figurative-themed award and will become an annual international prize. All artists aged 18 years or older are encouraged to enter.
The entry deadline is 11:59 p.m. (European Time), November 30th, 2018.

Brazil Museum Fire

The National Museum of Brazil, a 200 year old institution and the largest museum in Brazil, has been tragically destroyed in a fire last Sunday night.
Although the extent of the damage is unknown, an estimated 90% of the 20 million artifacts contained in the museum are thought to be destroyed, including the oldest human remains ever found in Brazil, Andean mummies, ancient Egyptian artifacts, and indigenous artifacts from the pre-Colombian period.
