New ARC Living Master™
December 23, 2015
ARC is pleased to announce Joshua LaRock as our newest ARC Living Master™. “LaRock's works are an ode to the past while being filtered through his contemporary point of reference. Even when referencing Bouguereau or using a pastoral theme, LaRock imbues a shade of the contemporaneous, drawing the viewer deeper into his world. His still life paintings almost pop off the canvas and give new reverie to the ordinary. Each work is tightly rendered and thoughtfully composed though LaRock's en plein air landscapes, are soft touches of color carefully recording a specific moment or truth in nature.”

Poetry in Beauty: The Pre-Raphaelite Art of Marie Spartali Stillman
December 22, 2015
Marie Spartali Stillman was one of the few professional female artists working in the second half of the 19th century. She was an important presence in the Victorian art world and closely affiliated with members of the Pre-Raphaelite circle. Poetry in Beauty, the first retrospective of her work, will showcase approximately 50 works by the artist. Spartali Stillman’s style reflects her British Pre-Raphaelite training as well as the influence of Renaissance art, derived from the many years she lived and worked in Italy. Works from public and private collections in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada, many of which have not been exhibited since her lifetime, will also be on view.
The exhibition is being held at the Delaware Museum of Art located at 2301 Kentmere Parkway, Wilmington, Delaware 19806 from November 7, 2015 - January 31, 2016. |
Ingres Exhibition
December 18, 2015
The work of Ingres undoubtedly constitutes an important forerunner to the late 19th- and early 20th-century artistic revolutions. The exhibition to be shown at the Museo del Prado in 2015, which has benefited from the special collaboration of the Musée du Louvre, offers a precise chronological presentation of Ingres' work but will also pay particular attention to his complex relationship with portraiture (characterized by his simultaneous rejection and admiration for it), which will be juxtaposed with his ongoing aim of being primarily recognized as a history painter.
The exhibition is being held at the Prado Museum, Calle Ruiz de Alarcón 23. Madrid. 28014 Spain and runs from Nov 24, 2015 - March 27, 2016. |

Class Distinctions Dutch Painting in the Age of Rembrandt and Vermeer
December 14, 2015
Organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, this groundbreaking exhibition proposes a new approach to understanding 17th-century Dutch painting. Through 75 carefully selected, beautifully preserved portraits, genre scenes, landscapes and seascapes borrowed from European and American public and private collections—including masterpieces never before seen in the United States—the show reflects, for the first time, the ways in which paintings represent the various socioeconomic groups of the new Dutch Republic, from the Princes of Orange to the most indigent.
The museum is located on the Avenue of the Arts, 465 Huntington Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts 02115 and runs from October 11, 2015 - January 18, 2016. To learn more about current and upcoming exhibitions, please click here. |
New Article -ARC Opening Night Triumph
December 11, 2015
Opening Night at the MEAM: Line to Get In
"It was a Friday night. The museum was hopping. It felt like it was the number one night club of Barcelona by the time the award ceremonies commenced at the official opening of the exhibition this past November 20th. This elegant museum, the renovated 18th Castle Gomis, was converted into a museum by the founder and director of the MEAM (European Museum of Modern Art), José Manuel Infiesta, who is also a famous architect with 300 buildings to his credit. The museum is a glorious building in which to display the art. Located in the fashionable Old Town District of El Borne, in Barcelona, just a few steps away from the Picasso Museum, (whose attendance was empty in comparison) in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, the location could not be better. An estimated 1,500 to 2,000 attended the official opening. The rooms were so crowded at one point, that if you were an art lover, you had some trouble seeing the paintings and it felt like you were at the cocktail party of the season. However, if you listened to what was being said, everyone was talking about the art; this new and revolutionary movement of Contemporary Realism that is taking the art world by storm. These contemporary depictions of our shared humanity executed with an uncompromisingly high level of skill, combined with ground breaking subject matter and composition, is evidence of a major shift taking place in the art world. People are responsive and falling in love once again with realism, a very contemporary realism. These are paintings that could only be painted now, and the "newness" of seeing so many contemporary works painted realistically, by modern artists, had a surprising and inspiring impact on the crowd. The rooms were electric with energy; the place sizzled."
