"The drawing Carra was inspired by an exhibition with the theme 'Synesthesia'. Imagining the phenomena of Synesthesia, in which a person may see sound as color, I wanted to illustrate what a musician may experience. I portrayed the harp player, Carra, seeing each string as a color. My lovely friend Carra posed for me; she is a talented musician, but I wasn't thrilled about drawing her instruments of choice, (the accordian and the hurdy-gurdy), so I took some other photos of a harp player, and the wonders of Photoshop helped achieve a great image. The drawing is charcoal and pastel. For the opening of the exhibition "Synesthesia, we were asked to provide a piece of music to accompany our art, so the gallery could make a playlist. I chose an Irish ballad called 'the Musical Priest'. The haunting music, played on a harp, fits the mood of the drawing." - Barbara Fox
