Fletcher Sibthorp

United Kingdom

Fletcher Sibthorp is a contemporary figurative artist whose work infuses technical aspects of classical oil painting with a modern aesthetic, exploring the fall and play of light on the figure with a subtle narrative

“I enjoy capturing the infinite expressions and subtleties that make up the human figure. Capturing a moment that is momentary and would otherwise be lost - beauty of the incidental. Backgrounds are intentionally paired down and narrative kept to a minimum to emphasize the figures. Allegory or any other deeper meaning is left for the viewer to interpret.

Figurative representational painting is my exploration into the poetry of the human form, portrayals of classical beauty, sensual ‘Haikus’ with subtle symbolic referencing, where the viewer is drawn to share an intimate, fleeting moment. Expressing contemporary narratives using classical art techniques, I hope to stir an emotion, a thought. Perhaps it’s something simple, sensory or maybe to rekindle a memory, to provoke and tease out something within the viewer - that thing that makes us human”
