Canada

Jennifer Annesley is an established Canadian artist from Edmonton, Alberta. She has practiced
full time since graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta in
1989, her career spans 32 years and 90 exhibitions. Her work resides in over 1000 collections
worldwide and receives international recognition through juried exhibitions and fine art
publications. Jennifer’s elegant and powerful compositions are characterized by dramatic light
and atmosphere achieved through her unconventional use of watercolour, charcoal and acrylic.
Jennifer was elected by jury to the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (C.S.P.W.C.) and the Federation of Canadian Artists in the year 2000. Her work has been represented by many Canadian Galleries, including Virginia Christopher Fine art in Calgary (1994 - 2009) and Canada House Gallery in Banff (2008 to present) and resides in collections such as the University of Alberta, The Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives, and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. In 2006, she received the highest watercolour award in Canada by the the C.S.P.W.C., the A.J.Casson medal.
Her practice is based on exploring historic architecture and remote landscapes at home and
abroad, and recording detail with a camera and notebook. In the studio, her technique is planned
and meticulous, with the design and drawing stages a critical foundation.
Jennifer grew up in a creative household full of music, craft, art, cooking and sewing, and spent
weekends and holidays camping, fishing and skiing. To this day her passions outside of painting
include music, dress design and cooking. Time away from home and studio is spent travelling or
pursuing outdoor adventure, such as skiing, backpacking, canoeing, and more recently iceclimbing.
She lives with her husband Neil in a 1912 house they both renovated to serve as their
home and Jennifer’s studio.
