Richard Greathouse

United States

Richard was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1986, where he currently resides and works. He trained at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy from 2008 to 2011, after which he stayed on as an instructor, teaching drawing, painting, and anatomy. He worked with the Florence Academy from 2011 until 2019. During that time, he helped open a branch of the school in Jersey City, NJ, and became the Director of the Anatomy Program, first in Jersey City, then back in Florence.

In 2019 he returned to Nashville, where he maintains a studio and teaches classes through the Cumberland Atelier, while intermittently traveling to give workshops.

He divides his time between painting and teaching, deriving great satisfaction from both. He believes strongly in the idea of artmaking as an introspective act, through which the artist is able to grow and improve him or herself not only as an artist, but as a person. He aims to apply this ideal both to himself and to those who study with him.

Richard has exhibited his work throughout the U.S. and Europe, and he is currently represented by Haynes Galleries in Nashville, Tennessee. His work has been collected internationally.
