D. Arthur McBride

United States

Darlene Williams (aka D. Arthur McBride) completed her first oil painting at the age of thirteen, and continued to paint and draw through her teen years, but majored in Science in college. After two children and finding herself the head of household, she pursued a teaching certificate and eventually taught high school science for 15 years.  Art remained a hobby until she was asked to teach a painting class for some ladies in Carrabelle, FL in 1979.  She taught the class for nine years, until moving to the Tallahassee area in 1988.  It was not until 1996 that she pursued art as a full-time career, and opened a small gallery in Havana, Florida, where she currently lives.

Although most of her work is commissioned portraits, she also often sells paintings of equestrian and wildlife subjects, landscapes and still life, etc.  She primarily paints in oils, but has used watercolor and acrylic media as well.  Darlene currently teaches several classes per week at her gallery, located three miles north of downtown Havana, at 8703 FL GA Hwy (US 27N).

As a professional name she uses D. Arthur McBride, "Arthur" being her maiden name, and McBride the name of her former deceased husband who encouraged her to pursue her passion.  "I know it's confusing," she says, "but perhaps after people meet me, they will remember my name as well as my works!"
