Daud Akhriev was born into an Ingush family in Kazakhstan in 1959. He studied classical painting and drawing for 14 years, graduating with honors in 1991 from the Russian Academy of Fine Art (The Repin Institute) with a master’s degree in fine art from the studios of the late academic, Piotr Fomin.
In addition to easel paintings paintings, Akhriev’s monumental work can be found around the Southeastern United States in churches, hospitals and educational institutions. His monumental sculptures, The Four Seasons, adorn Chattanooga’s John Ross Bridge.
Over the past 28 years, Akhriev has exhibited extensively around the United States, Europe and China. He is a Master-level member of Oil painters of America, The Association of Spanish Pastel Painters, The Union of Russian Artists and Society of American Mosaic Artists. The artist has a passion for teaching, and offers classes in both Europe and the United States. He has received numerous awards from Oil Painters of America, Pastel Journal, Salon International, Plein Air Magazine and others.
Akhriev has been featured in a diverse list of respected art periodicals and books, among them Daud Akhriev: Stylistic Pluralism published in 2002 by Common Place publishing, Pastel Journal, Artists Magazine, Traditions Rediscovered: The Finley Collection of Russian Art, Island Journal, Chattanooga Magazine, Southern Living and American Art Collector. A selection of Akhriev’s drawings are also in several books about the Repin Institute, both in Russian language and in Chinese.
