Heather McGarey

United States

Heather earned a BFA from the University of Colorado focusing on set and lighting design.  She moved to New York after graduating college and studied art at the Art Students League of New York and the School of Visual Arts. While in New York she painted principally in acrylic.   Returning to Colorado after 5 years of city life she continued exploring her art and discovered the joys of working in colored pencil which she used to do sensitive “portraits” of fruit and veggies as well as people.

Never straying far from her realistic art roots, she is now working in charcoal and oil paint. This has opened an exciting love of portraiture.  In addition to creating an accurate likeness of her subject she enjoys capturing the emotion and spirit that is under the surface.

Heather is a Signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and served as president of the Denver Chapter of the Colored Pencil Society for three years. Most recently, she has been studying classical art at the Boulder School of Fine Art.  She has been in numerous juried shows and international exhibitions.
