Sookyi Lee

Sookyi Lee was born in Seoul, Korea and earned her BFA from Hong-Ik University. She continued her study in US and earned her MFA from Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Upon her graduation, she worked as a faculty at the University teaching classes. She now continues her career as a full-time artist and teaching workshops.

Sookyi has participated in many exhibitions, including Oil Painters of America's National Juried Exhibition and Salon International Juried Exhibitions. She received many awards for her art such as the Best Portrait Awards from The National Oil and Acrylic Painter’s Society 16th and 18th ‘Best of America’ competition, She won her second First Place in Drawing award at the Portrait Society of America’s 2019 International Portrait Competition after receiving her First back in 2017. Also She recently won an Haynes gallery Award and honorable mention in Drawing category at Art Renewal Center Salon International competition 2019. Old masters and many contemporary artists have consistently influenced Sookyi's art. To her, a deep understanding of art is a lifelong mission, and painting is her way to appreciate life. Sookyi’s paintings are not only the representations of the outside world, but also reflections of her inner self. By imagining stories about subjects and considering emotional reactions of viewers, she aims to go beyond the superficial representations and convey the characters of her subjects.
