Fiona Cotton is a practising artist in the realist tradition, with a particular interest in portraiture and still life painting.  She has been a finalist in many national art prizes in Australia including the AME Bale Portrait Prize, the Percival Portrait Prize, the Rick Amor Self Portrait Prize, the Mosman Art Prize, Eutick Memorial Still Life (EMSLA) Award and the Lethbridge Art Award.   She began her art training with professional artist Mary Martin in the UK before moving to Australia in her teens.  She has a BA in Fine Art (History) and Drama (Flinders University), a Diploma of Education (Adelaide University), and an MA (Macquarie University).  She has painted throughout her life but has been able to focus more fully on her painting practice since leaving her position at the University of New South Wales, where she was teaching and researching in Linguistics and English Communication.  She has studied in Florence in the summer intensive programs at the Florence Academy of Art and the Charles H Cecil Studios as well as taking workshops with master realist painters such as Michael Klein and Joshua La Rock.
