  ARTIST STATEMENT/BIO-

Marcia Klioze

After enjoying a long career, spanning over 30 years and included working as senior staff; editorial and medical illustrator; freelancing for major newspaper, magazine, institutional, and publication markets, Marcia is now immersed in traditional oil painting. Marcia is a portrait and figurative painter; “People fascinate me, which, I feel contributes to my ability to capture a likeness. Through illustration, I’m drawn to the narrative in portrait and figure painting. I like to think that my paintings are more than just mirroring a person's features, that I capture a moment, or their essence that depicts who we are. People are all about their relationships with each other, their pets, and the surrounding landscape of our lives.  Incorporating the landscape, still life, our loves and sorrows fascinate me. I look to translate the extraordinary ordinary, in my paintings, which I find so intriguing… “

Marcia teaches in Leesburg, Loudoun Co., Great Falls, and the DC area and also enjoys portrait and painting commissions. Her paintings are frequently exhibited in solo and group shows and are held in public and private collections and shows.
