Walter Rane was born in National City, California on September 8, 1949.  He received his BFA from Art Center College of Design in 1973 after which he moved to the New York City area where he began his career as a free-lance illustrator of books and magazines.  Mr Rane gradually transitioned to gallery and institutional work, primarily of a religious nature.  Today he is represented by the Rehs gallery in New York City, Anthony's Fine Art in Salt Lake City, Utah and The Cooley Gallery in Old Lyme Connecticut.

Today Mr Rane lives and works in New York City with his wife Linda.  They have four sons, two daughters-in-law and three grand children.
