Casey Thornton

Australia

Casey Thornton is a contemporary figurative oil painter based in Western Australia’s Wheatbelt region. She has spent the past few years furthering her skills in representational oil painting, after undertaking a Creative Grid emerging artist mentorship to develop her first solo exhibition.

Thornton has a deep interest in the style and techniques of the old masters as well as contemporary figurative and hyperrealist painters, and aims to capture an authentic representation of the world around her. Perhaps best known for her focus on portraiture, Thornton has recently begun exploring botanical and still life subjects. Through her work Thornton aims to create keenly observed and highly detailed works that invite a quiet moment of pause, introspection and welcome respite from a constantly ‘switched on’ world.

Thornton studied a Bachelor of Humanities (Fine Art) at Curtin University, graduating with distinction in 2013. Snce returning to her visual arts practice, she has recently completed two intensive oil painting courses at Adelaide's Art Academy under the tuition of highly acclaimed hyperrealist Robin Eley. In 2018 she was awarded funding to support the development of my arts practice from state and national arts funding programs. Thornton's paintings are held in private collections across Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Japan and Singapore. She has held two solo exhibitions in Western Australia and taken part in numerous group shows including The Alternative Archive exhibition series.
