Chiemi Tomiyama
Japan
Born in Tokyo in 1961, Chiemi Tomiyama moved to Osaka as a child. She has worked professional painter and fashion designer since graduating college.
As a natural escape from her Japanese urban environment, she finds beauty in the intimacy of still life and portraiture and in the natural appeal of landscapes. Her works are evenly split between these subject matters. While she seeks to preserve the vitality of her subjects through realistic depiction of forms, she admits to a preference for accentuated, vibrant colors.
