Born in Shanghai, China in 1993, Yangzhi (Beck) Chen lived in the city for 17 years. In 2010, he traveled to the U.S. and attended Baylor High School in Chattanooga, TN. He graduated from Baylor in 2013, and during his time there, he met his art mentor Daud Akhriev, who gave him private tutoring.

 In 2014, Yangzhi went to Russia to attend a six-year fine art program at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. His works are frequently recognized and collected by the Academy Foundation. He graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree in August 2020.
