Miguel del Rey Vergara is a figurative artist who was born and raised in Madrid, Spain. Miguel received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA, earned a Sculpture Certificate from the Art Students League of New York, and was the recipient of a scholarship to study sculpture at the Academia di Belle Arti Carrara in Italy.
Miguel has been practicing and teaching art in New York since 2015. His artwork has been widely exhibited and he has received numerous awards, including the Figurativas 2019 Purchase Award from the European Museum of Modern Art, Art Renewal Center Salon 2019 Finalist award, the Walter & Michael Lantz Prize in the Richard McDermott Miller Sculpture Competition, and the Ann & Bruno Lucchesi foundation’s Grant. Miguel was honored to be selected as a semi-finalist out of thousands of submissions for the Outwin-Boochever Portrait Competition hosted by the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C.
