Unfurling by Anne-Marie Zanetti

Composition involves more than just the meticulous placement of a subject in relation to its surroundings; it refers to all parts of a painting coming together to create a mood and a message.  This piece for me was all about balance, vulnerability and beauty. 

I have only recently started painting the nude female form although I have been intrigued to do so for a long while.  I am fascinated and a little daunted by the difficulty of capturing the form for its sensuousness and appealing nature without being erotically suggestive.  The female form is magnificent and aesthetically engaging and I want to be sensitive and respectful in my renderings.  Being surrounded by some wonderfully expressive, wood carvings in Bali was the initial inspiration for this piece.
