Red Rhododendron by Jim McVicker

“Our home is surrounded by several rhododendrons plus other flowering trees and plants. I wanted to try something where I was looking through the flowers to the still life creating a sense of the space and atmosphere within the room. I clipped a large branch off the red rhododendron placing it in a large vase in the foreground of the painting. Movement, rhythm, light, shapes and color were exciting and challenging to work with. I want it to feel as though the viewer is standing within the room. Atmosphere and space are important elements.” – Jim McVicker
