In the same way that understanding human anatomy can help us to paint the figure more expressively, a knowledge of the artistic anatomy of rocks, trees, water and skies can help artists to develop a true "landscape sense", backing bold, bravura brushwork with the sound knowledge of the construction and movement of forms.
We will study these elements of the landscape, drawing connections between the surface appearance and their essence. This understanding will give us the first steps towards conveying our artistic message in an expressive, lively way.
Through exercises, lectures, discussions and demonstrations, you will learn how to select and simplify nature in its overwhelming abundance! You will be introduced to the tools that make great paintings: Line, Shape, Values, Color, Edges, and Texture. You will overcome the fear and begin the JOY of painting from life outdoors!
“Learning never ends, we are all students of art. Growth comes as a gift in response to earnest effort and openness"
