URBES - Contemporary Landscapes

From September 27, 2024, to January 26, 2025, the MEAM museum, Barra de Ferro 5, Barcelona Spain 08003, will open to the public the exhibition Urbes, Contemporary Landscapes. Around forty works by contemporary figurative artists , including ARC Living Master Ana Schmidt, capture the essence and diversity of modern cities.
The exhibition explores how current artists represent the reality of their urban environment, establishing a dialogue between construction and destruction, between the individual and the collective. Painting an urban landscape is bearing witness to a transformation. The works invite us to reflect on the constant changes of urban life, driven by progress and ongoing environmental, political, and cultural challenges.

The Lester Prize

Congratulations to ARC Living Master Vicki Sullivan for winning the Highly Commended Prize in the Lester Portrait Prize competition.
“Vicki Sullivan’s ‘Fiona with Walkabout Wickets’ depicts the renowned Aboriginal woman artist Fiona Clarke, whose artwork Walkabout Wickets is worn by Australian men and women cricket teams whenever they play. Fiona is also the relative of two of the members of the team of Aboriginal men cricketers who were in fact the first team of cricketers to represent this country in 1866. Fiona sits proudly with her painting, both on the wall behind her and emblazoned on her T-shirt just visible beneath her robe.”
The Lester Prize Main Awards exhibition will be held at Western Australian Museum, Perth Cultural Center, WA 6000, Australia from 13 September to 27 October 2024.

Paris through the Eyes of Saint-Aubin

Gabriel de Saint-Aubin was a prolific and unconventional draftsman. As an observer and chronicler, he recorded the full spectrum of Paisian daily life in his sketchbooks, from shop interiors to art auctions and public gardens to rowdy street fairs.
Marking the 300th anniversary of his birth, the exhibition features drawings and prints, drawn from The Met’s holdings and local private collections, are complemented by a selection of works by his family and contemporaries, offering a context for his career and highlighting the unique nature of his vision.

17th ARC Salon Semi-Finalists in Lunar Codex

In partnership with the Art Renewal Center (ARC), the Lunar Codex will now be including all 1,970 + images of semi-finalist works from the 17th ARC Salon in its Polaris archive. This archive is targeting a launch date of September 2025, through NASA mission CLPS-TO-20A, via the SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket and the Astrobotic Griffin lunar lander, headed for the lunar south pole. Polaris is expected to be a multimedia archive based on nickel foil, Nanofiche, semiconductor and/or ceramic memory, and synthetic DNA, with the metallic-based archives expected to last over a million years. The Lunar Codex currently represents curated cultural artifacts - including art, writing, music, and film - from 254 countries, territories, and Indigenous nations. ARC artists are on six of the seven Lunar Codex missions, with the first successful Moon landing on February 22, 2024. In this mission, scores of ARC-related works were included. With three missions launched, and four more on schedule, the Lunar Codex remains the largest and most global cultural heritage project of its kind.

The ARC Semi-Finalist roster has now posted

The Art Renewal Center is proud to announce its list of semi-finalists in the 17th International ARC Salon Competition. 1,970 works have been accepted as semi- finalists, about 40% of entries. All semi-finalists will appear on the ARC website when results post. An additional list of just our finalists will post to the Art Renewal Center website on November 20, 2024. Catharsis: Wild Heart - Curated by Anna Wypych

ARC Living Master Anna Wypych is an artist who paints dramatic and electrifying compositions with her soul and with unwavering freedom. Catharsis: Wild Heart serves as Anna’s love letter to the art world and the artists who don’t conform to the traditional. The artists Anna selected for this group exhibition, create art based on their emotional release and without restraint.
Also among the participating artists are ARC Living Master Julie Bell and Anthony Waichulis.
The opening reception is September 13, 2024 from 6-8:30 pm.
The exhibition takes place from September 13 – October 7, 2024 at the Principle Gallery, 208 King St, Alexandria, VA 22314.

Secessions - Klimt, Stuck, Liebermann

In cooperation with the Alte Nationalgalerie Berlin, the Wien Museum is showing an exhibition about the Secession movements in Munich, Vienna and Berlin at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The establishment of secessions in many European countries in the late 19th century symbolized a break from the prevailing artistic institutions. The objective of secessionist artists was vibrancy and a diverse form of artistic expression.
The exhibition runs from May 23 – October 13, 2024 at the Wien Museum, 8 Karlsplatz, Vienna, 1040 Austria.

Allied Artists of America 111th Annual Exhibition

The Allied Artists of America, founded in New York City in 1914, celebrated their 111th Annual Exhibition in 2024. Artists from around the world entered the competition.
Among the winners and finalists are ARC Living Artist Dan Simoneau, ARC Associate Living Master Kim Diment and Clark Gussin, and ARC Living Masters Jon Boe Paulsen, Ricky Mujica, Max Ginsburg, and Steven Levin.
Allied Artists of America, Inc., an ARC Allied Organization, is a non-profit national art society composed of artists, sculptors, elected active members and sustaining associate members from the across the country.

Home and Away

Home and Away is an exhibition featuring paintings of international and local views of Sudley House in Liverpool, England.
The international views are all from the collection of the Holt family, the former residents of Sudley House, displaying their interest in travel, foreign countries and local customs. It is more than a decade since many of these works have been on display.
The exhibition includes views of Liverpool and the local area in the 19th century, while the Holts were at Sudley. These paintings largely come from the Walker Art Gallery's collection and give a wonderful idea of what the Holts would have seen as they went into the city for shopping, business or leisure.
Works by John Atkinson Grimshaw, Jean Leon Gerome, Thomas Creswick, Frederick Goodall, Charles Trevor Prescott and Eduardo de Martino are among the works on display.
The exhibition runs until February 26, 2026 at Sudley House, Mossley Hill Rd, Liverpool, L18 8BX, United Kingdom.
