ARC User Registration and Membership
November 22, 2011
The Art Renewal Center, in an attempt to become a self-sustaining organization and to continue to provide an important art resource to the world, has made the executive decision to start user registrations and memberships. Although much of the content of the website will remain free to all users, including all articles, exhibition information, and thumbnails of the 75,000 images on the website, we will be restricting free access of the large images to registered users, and only paid members will have access to the high resolution files. We had hoped to keep this service free, but ARC is losing money steadily.
We will be offering a 50% discount on memberships between now and December 1, 2011. Access to the high resolution images will be extremely affordable at $14.95 a year, ($1.25 a month) which is tax-deductible. Seniors and students will receive a discounted rate of $9.95/year ($.83/month). Most museums charge for admissions and ARC, as a nonprofit, 501(C)(3), educational foundation, must do the same in order to provide the services it does for generations to come. With the proceeds we hope to raise, we will be able to expand many of our features and become an even greater asset to society. We hope our regular users will understand and be happy to support us by becoming members. We ask those who can afford it to make an additional donation directed to our scholarships, museum expansion or research and articles. |
Teaching Studios of Art December Workshops
November 18, 2011
The Baroque Portrait with Adam Miller at TSA's Oyster Bay studio December 15th - 17th, 2011
This unique workshop is designed to help artists of any level of skill and experience draw and paint the portrait in the grand manner of Gainsborough, Reynolds and Van Dyck. The Baroque Portrait consists of 3 days of working from the live model. The goal is to take advantage of a layered approach to painting, the ways a colored under-painting affects the final painting, and also help provide a focus on using limited colors towards building an artistic harmony of warms, cools and grays. Click here for more information on this workshop.
The Living Portrait with Maria Kreyn at TSA's Brooklyn studio December 17th - 18th, 2011
The Living Portrait workshop consists of two days of drawing from the live model and is designed for all skill levels. This workshop will focus on creating both the likeness of the model and also emotional expression, bringing the portrait to life using the graphite medium. Emphasis will be placed on developing expression, line, edges, atmosphere, and internal gesture. Students will learn a process of drawing that focuses on quickly laying down a large amount of information, and then honing and focusing it to a high finish of detail and clarity. Sotheby's New York Nov. 4th Major 19th Century European Sale
November 1, 2011
Announcing the Sotheby's New York's Major 19th Century European painting sale is here. The Pre-Sale is up now through November 3rd and the auction is November 4th. The Sale includes a selection of many fine works of the period including 3 Alma-Tademas, 3 Godwards, 6 Bouguereaus, and many works by Bouguereau students as well. In addition, the sale features Jehan Georges Vibert's greatest know cardinal painting La Tireuse De Cartes, A.K.A. The Fortune Teller. This work is the ultimate spoof on the clergy and at the time it was painted, was representative of freedom a speech. It was a painting the artist would have been severely punished for if he had painted it at almost any other pervious point in history.
