Timeless Beauty. A History of Still Life
Published on February 21, 2024
Timeless Beauty is a wide-ranging presentation, with masterpieces by painters such as Balthasar van der Ast, Jan Davidsz de Heem, Adriaen van Utrecht, Willem Claesz Heda, Abraham Mignon and Rachel Ruysch. The exhibition comprehensively illuminates the genre "still life": How long has this existed? What exactly constitutes a still life? What meaning, what content and what function did they have and still have today? What allegories and symbols are hidden in these motifs?
Many of the works on display, some of them in recently restored condition, allow visitors to rediscover this fascinating genre.
The exhibition takes place at the Gemaldegalerie Alte Meister, 1 Theaterplatz, Dresden, 01067, Germany from November 17, 2023 – September 1, 2024.
