Roelant Savery's Wondrous World
Published on February 2, 2024
A pioneer in many fields, Savery (1576 – 1639) introduced several new themes to Dutch painting. He made the Netherlands’ first floral still life, and was the most notable painter of the legendary (extinct) dodo. He was also one of the first Dutch artists who went out into the streets to draw ordinary people. His painted landscapes are often like a fairytale, featuring ancient ruins, marvelous vistas and an abundance of animal species.
Roelant Savery's Wondrous World features over 40 paintings and drawings, including works on loan from museums in the Netherlands and around the world.
The exhibition runs from January 8 – May 20, 2024 at Mauritshuis, 29 Plein, Den Haag, 2511 CS, Netherlands.
