Alkmaar (The Netherlands) based painter Yvonne Melchers' focus is on realistic/figurative oil paintings. In her work from the beginning she was torn between her love for the North Sea beaches in their cool light and the warm Italian life in all its aspects. She followed her heart and series arose, the most important being The North Sea, Italian Scenes, Siena Palio Portraits (portraits of modern Italian men and boys in historical costumes) and Rooms with a View (mostly located in Italy). There is a small series of Still Lifes and also portraits or other subjects are made by commission.
From 2001 to 2012 she has been working in The Netherlands and in Italy (Siena) alternately, but from April 2012 she has only worked in The Netherlands.
She is known for her fresh colors using the very limited palette of Claude Monet. She participated in some exhibitions in Italy, but mostly in The Netherlands in galleries, at art fairs, in the Museum Møhlmann several times a year and recently and currently in the US and in Spain. Some works are available on Artsy through the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago/US and Abend Gallery in Denver/US. Published in magazines and numerous books on realistic/figurative work and in many theme issues of PoetsArtists Magazine in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
Her work was added to Grandes Autores of website ArteLibre (Spain) in 2018 and Invited with 200 international realist artists to participate in the Exhibition 20x20 of Galería ArteLibre which was held in Zaragoza and at the Museum MEAM in Barcelona in 2019 and in Chivasso/Italy in 2022.
Two portraits from her series Siena Palio Portraits were semi-finalists in 2015 and in 2018 respectively in the BP Portrait Award competition of the National Portrait Gallery in London.
Two paintings from her series The North Sea were selected in 2017 and 2019 respectively as semi-finalists of Figurativas competition of the MEAM Museum in Barcelona.
Two portraits from her series Siena Palio Portraits were selected as semi-finalists of the Mod Portrait competition of the Galería ArteLibre in collaboration with the MEAM Museum in Barcelona.
One of her portraits from her series Siena Palio Portraits was selected as a semi finalist in the Dutch Portrait Award of 2017. Her commissioned portrait of Prof. Dr. M.J. Heineman (Academic Medical Center Amsterdam) was one of the 50 nominated portraits for the Dutch portrait Award of 2019.
Eleven of her works that in the last few years appeared in an American art catalogue, in an issue of Fine Art Connoisseur and in many issues of the Poets Artists magazine have been digitized and will be part of two launches to the Moon in 2022 and 2023, initiated by Dr. Samuel Peralta.
Her work is included in numerous private collections around the world, in the art collection of the Academic Medical Center Amsterdam and in Museum Møhlmann in Appingedam/The Netherlands.
