Warren Crossett

Warren Crossett is an artist based in Melbourne, Australia. His work is often an ode to the past, with elements of the old masters, surrealism, and contemporary art. Often employing symbols and metaphors of contemporary existence. When depicting general subjects the philosophy of beauty in simple things is displayed. He began his career as an illustrator producing artwork for many different areas, from children’s books to national and international blue chip companies. In late 2015 he moved his attention to fine art only..His subject matter ranges from traditional portraiture, conceptual themes, and portraits with incorporated symbology, landscapes, some still life, private commissions and even abstract work. Largely self-taught he enjoys passing on his extensive technical knowledge through a small time fraction in the visual art department at Melbourne Polytechnic. In 2015 he won the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, and since then has been a finalist in the Shirley Hannan National Portrait Award, a finalist in the National Portrait Gallery Award ‘The Darling Prize’, exhibited in the Salon De Refuses for the Wynne Prize as well as a finalist for the Doug Moran Prize in 2021 and a semi- finalist on 3 other occasions.
