Sarah Lacy

Canada

Trained in classical realism, Sarah Marie Lacy plays with 18th and 19th century artistic theories but in a modern context, creating oil paintings and graphite drawings of the human body that reference the past but are clearly of contemporary subjects. Her intimate portraits and nudes explore the silent stories that are written on our bones and skin. Sarah studied classical figure drawing and painting at Studio Escalier in France and has received several awards and grants, including first place in portraiture The Artist Magazine’s Annual Competition. She founded The Drawing Room Studio in Ottawa where she taught classical figure drawing and painting for several years before deciding to focus on portrait painting during the pandemic.
