Samuel Hoskins is an oil painter focusing on still life, portraiture, and figures. Hoskins always knew he wanted to be an artist and began developing his abilities at the age of twelve. With the support of his family, friends, and mentors, he received a national medal at the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and was accepted into The Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, to study after high school graduation.
Hoskins is fascinated by philosophy/psychology and the exploratory internal journey these concepts address. Aristotle, Nietzsche, and Jung are some of his favorite outliers whose progressive ideas often make up the inspiration behind his artwork. Hoskins’ purpose is to connect with this timeless “Golden Thread” built upon by thinkers, artists, and explorers throughout history to push humanity into contemporary fruition. He believes that it is the role of the artist to venture into the unknown and bring out substance from the unconscious. Once it has manifested in art, it can then be refined.
