Rina Kim was born and raised in Los Angeles but eventually moved to Massachusetts to study studio art and theater at Mount Holyoke College. During this time, she began experimenting with mixing materials and techniques in her work. Perhaps most importantly, she studied in Siena, Italy, where she developed a fascination for medieval and proto-Renaissance aesthetics and storytelling. Upon graduating from Mount Holyoke, Rina studied classical and 19th century painting methods under maestros Michael John Angel and Jered Woznicki in Florence, Italy. This education enabled her to incorporate new depths of technical skill into her new works. Rina’s recent work explores the notion of contradictions, both in the visual and conception sense. Currently, she lives and works in New York City, USA.
