Nancy Allen is a graphic and fine artist living in La Grande, Oregon. She made her living as a graphic designer for over 30 years until her retirement in 2013. Although she still dabbles in graphic arts, her main interest is equine portraiture. Originally working exclusively in pen and ink, she was encouraged to take up colored pencil and studied briefly under Bet Borgenson, a pioneer in the use of colored pencil as a fine art medium. She considers herself a work in progress as far as understanding the possibilities that colored pencil offers and in honing her technique.
She is currently a Juried Member of the American Academy of Equine Art, a Member of the American Plains Artists, and a former Signature and Explore This! Member of the Colored Pencil Society of America. Her work has appeared in Horse Illustrated Magazine, Horses in Art Magazine, Art Horse Magazine’s Ex Arte Equinus, and has pieces in several private collections. She has exhibited with the American Academy of Equine Art, the Colored Pencil Society of America, the Washington Thoroughbred Association, Emerald Downs Racetrack, the American Plains Artists, the Wallowa Festival of Arts, and Hamley’s in Pendletom Oregon.
Nancy resides with her husband on a small farm in Union County with two horses, two dogs and seven cats.
