Mary Cornish will tell you her art and creative spirit have always been a determining factor in her approach to life. She was raised in the Puget Sound area of Washington state and received her early art training from William Tartaglia and Grace Wagner. She received the National Scholastic Gold Key Art Award in Painting during her Senior year in High School, cumulating with a group exhibit at the Frye Art Museum in Seattle, Washington.
After attending Northwest College of Art, she started a successful business creating business and corporate identities. Years later, she fulfilled her original dream and began painting professionally. Mary slowly built her following through word of mouth, later reaching wider audiences through National and International exhibitions. She has won numerous awards for her artwork. Mary has had solo exhibits throughout the United States. Her paintings have appeared in shows across the United States such as the American Academy of Equine Art, Women Artists of the West, Art at the Classic, Oil Painters of America, Worldwide Art Renewal Center’s Salon, and Woodson Art Museum’s famed “Birds in Art”.

Her paintings are included in private, corporate, and museum collections in the United States and worldwide including Australia, Estonia, and Italy. She counts among her collectors: Washington State's Arts Commission Collection; Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii; Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation; and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Museum, Wausau, Wisconsin.
Mary can be found working in her studio, near the Blue Ridge Mountains in Warrenton, Virginia, where she resides with her husband, Mark Hicks; a master artisan in wood.
