Layne Johnson

United States

Following his 1982 graduation from the University of Houston with a BFA, Layne Johnson spent 30+ years as a graphic designer, illustrator and award-winning children’s book artist. Then in 2014, he returned to his first love, fine art oil painting. His landscapes have been described as a blend of Luminism and Classical Realism.

Today, Layne finds ongoing inspiration from the Texas landscape: the way the light plays upon the trees and rocky terrain and the big powerful, stormy Texas skies. He also finds inspiration in the works of the luminists of the Hudson River School.

In addition to painting full-time, Layne also has an online art school where he’s dedicated to teaching realism and classical painting techniques to his students from around the world.

His work hangs in numerous private and corporate collections and is represented by The Good Art Company art gallery in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Layne lives in Grapeland, Texas with his wife, Sondra.
