Julia Bacon

United States

Julia Eva Bacon is a life-long, self-taught creative who began painting exclusively in oils in 2003 through independent study of the old masters, and later through workshops with contemporary painters continuing in the classical realist tradition. Her love of expressive brushstroke coupled with traditional realism continues to drive her vision.

A passionate environmentalist, Bacon’s work turned to the natural world and became focused on our spiritual connection to animals. Her wildlife paintings aim to elevate each animal to a place of sacred regard, reminding the viewer of our kinship with the natural world. During the pandemic, her work began to shift back toward portraiture as the world grappled with loss, heartbreak, and overwhelming challenges.

Similar to her animal portraits, Bacon’s human subjects seek to capture a moment of shared experience and connection, a quiet moment caught between the busyness and bedlam of everyday life. She believes that stewarding balance with the natural world—and connection with each other—are the most essential and prevailing needs of our time.

Julia Eva Bacon is also an award winning graphic designer, spanning a 20-year career within the non-profit environmental sector.
