Jeff Ripple is dedicated to a poetic realism in landscape painting, which he describes as an artistic union of his accurate depiction of a scene infused by his emotional response to the light and atmosphere on that landscape. He is a self-trained painter whose style involves carefully planned drawings, a reliance on sketches and studies painted in nature to inform studio work, and a treatment of light and atmosphere reminiscent of 19th Century artists working in the American Hudson River School and Luminist traditions. Many studio paintings are from imagination, drawing from experiences, contemplation and a sense of wonder in the landscape.
