James McComas
United States
Jim is a classically trained contemporary realist whose work hangs in private collections nationally and internationally. He’s been juried into numerous regional, national, and international art shows around the US. Accolades include “Best in Show” (Lines Into Shapes 2016, Estes Park, CO; All Colorado at the Depot, 2021, Littleton, CO); “Award of Merit” (Colorado Governor’s Show, 2020, Loveland, CO); and “People’s Choice” (Au Naturel 2015, 2018, Astoria, OR; All Colorado at the Depot, 2018, Littleton, CO). He’s also taught figurative painting at the Classical Art Academy in Boulder, Colorado.
Jim’s work is predominantly figurative as he’s particularly inspired by the grace, gesture, and beauty of the human form. Through the figure he strives to capture, interpret, and express the contemporary human experience in a way that is timeless, yet wholly relevant to our time. His goal is to incorporate the figure into compelling visual compositions that capture the eye and engage the mind. Along those lines he sees the role of the figure in his art much as the role a dancer plays in a ballet: profoundly moving in and of itself, yet an integral part of a larger story.
Jim has been a life long artist, but also served 26 years in the US Air Force as an F-15 fighter pilot. He lives with his wife, Lea (also an artist), and their two dogs in the hills northwest of Golden, Colorado.
