Irene Georgopoulou

United States

Irene Georgopoulou is a pastelist by preference and she loved this medium from the moment she picked up her first pastel in 2009. She finds that pastel is a magical medium that reflects light in such way that the painting's surface emits a mystical glow.

Since becoming a full-time artist in 2009 she has won several awards and her work has been published in art books and magazines, most notably: ARC Salon Catalogue, Poets and Artists Magazine, Hyperrealism Magazine, International Artist Magazine, Artist’s Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, Pastel Journal, The Guide Artists, Pratique des Arts and a series of “Strokes of Genius” books.

She is mainly a still life painter but she also enjoys portraiture. Where most people would see an ordinary object, she sees a painting depicting a meaningful story. Her work conveys these stories visually through vibrant colors and rich textures. Inspiration comes from fortuitous places most of the times. For her it could be the intensity of the color of a marble; luminous reflections on silverware; water droplets on a pebble; objects that carry special memories of her beloved people so each of them has an emotional appeal or a story connected to it. She paints what she finds beautiful, enjoying the process of painting. It gives her great pleasure when her work resonates with people.

Art is about one’s passion. Her passion is expressed through realism. She had been drawn towards realism since she started this wonderful journey and her need to paint the chosen subject with great precision seduced her into an ongoing battle to mastering new techniques of realism.

She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America and of the Pastel Society of the West Coast, Member of PASIT (Pastellisti Italiani), of Great Lakes Pastel Society, of International Guild of Realism and has achieved Master Circle Status with International Association of Pastel Societies. She is also member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.

She has had work in many exhibitions throughout USA, Greece, Turkey, Italy, France and China. Irene’s art is in many private collections worldwide.
