Guy Joy

United States

Born in San Francisco, California, USA and growing up just across the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County, Guy has been passionate about drawing and painting his entire life.

An Honors Graduate with a Baccalaureate of Fine Arts degree in Design, Drawing and Painting from California College of the Arts in Oakland, California USA, he studied with Master Artists Vincent Perez, Ralph Borge and Wolfgang Lederer. He also attended San Francisco Academy of Art, San Francisco Art Institute, University of California at Berkeley, Humboldt State University and Evolution Academy for the Arts in Northern California, USA.

Guy was 2011 Artist in Residence at Westhaven Center for the Arts, Former Executive Director at the Morris Graves Museum of Art, Eureka, California and Board Member for the Mendocino Art Center, also in California.

Guy’s art is inspired by the dramatic beauty and spirit of nature in the many forms it takes. His rich sense of color was acquired by closely observing flowers, butterflies and tropical fish. He is also influenced by the diversity of cultures world wide and the artists emerging from them, throughout history.

Guy’s art is about connecting; first with the best parts of himself, and then, through his art, connecting with others to offer them an opportunity to look at things differently with curiosity and mutual respect, to actively participate in the creative process, personalizing images and colors that have meaning to them.

Guy prefers the immediacy and freshness of color of Acrylics on canvas, and uses watercolor for studies of larger works.
