Chris Elizabeth Richards was born in Baton Rouge, La, but lived most of her life in North Carolina. As a teenager, Chris moved to New York City to pursue a career in classical ballet, where she studied with The Joffrey. After working in New York and Europe in dance, she returned to North Carolina where she earned an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina, followed by a Medical Degree from East Carolina University. Richards practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology for13 years in New Bern, NC. After a surgical injury to her hand, Chris returned to ECU, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and subsequently, a Master of Fine Arts, both with concentrations in sculpture. Chris is thrilled to now be studying figurative sculpture and drawing as a 2nd year sculpture student at The Florence Academy of Art, where she represents the face of the non-conventional student.
Chris’s work has been exhibited in the USA regionally, including with the NC Museum of Art, and can be seen in the permanent collections of Craven Community College, Coastal Carolina Regional Airport, East Carolina University, Community Council for the Arts, and several private collections.
