Ann Morton Artist

Ann has painted all her life. Born in Cowra, Central West NSW, Australia, in 1958, she cannot remember a time when painting and drawing were not central to her life.

Ann's art education took the form of constant practice and mentoring by both her father and other great realist artists in the local area. Art schools were focused on 'modern art' in those days, so to delve into the realism she loved Ann had to find other ways to learn and develop.

The world of realist art at the time was broad and tonal. Ann went detailed and into the colour that she loved. 

It was by following her heart in this way that she was able to develop her own unique style.

Working all her life as an artist, with many solo and joint exhibitions, Ann still finds that each painting takes such an investment of time it is hard to gather enough paintings for a show.

Her works are represented in collections all over the world.

Although she rarely enters competitions, she has been hung in:

• The Archibald Portrait Prize
• The Sporting Archibald
• THe Portia Geach Portrait Prize
• The Doug Moran Portrait Prize
• The Art Renewal Center Salon

To name a few.

To Ann, the point of art is that the work has to speak to you. Look into the colours. Enjoy the detail. Then look at it from across the room, in a different light. The work takes hours, days, sometimes months to produce. 

They are works to invite contemplation, even meditation.
