Jennifer Annesley

Canada

Jennifer Annesley is a professional Canadian artist whose career spans 33 years, has been in over 100 exhibitions and has received significant awards including the A.J. Casson Medal, the highest watercolour award in Canada. Her work is collected worldwide and included in public collections such as the University of Alberta, The Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. She has gained further international recognition through juried exhibitions and major fine art publications. Her career began in 1989 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta.
Jennifer was elected by jury to both the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC) and the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) in the year 2000. In May she received the highest designation from the Federation (SFCA Status) awarded to only 8 artists across Canada this year. She currently serves on the board of the CSPWC as director and Chairperson for the CSPWC’s International Open Exhibition. Her work has been represented by many Canadian Galleries, including Virginia Christopher Fine art in Calgary (1994 - 2009)
Her practice is based on exploring historic architecture and remote landscapes at home and abroad, and recording detail with a camera and notebook. In the studio, her technique is planned and meticulous, with the design and drawing stages a critical foundation. Jennifer’s paintings contrast elegance and power, and are recognized for their dramatic sense of light and atmosphere achieved by her precise and unconventional use of watercolour and charcoal.
